Applications of Polystyrene Sulfonate in Various Industries:
Semiconductor Industry:
· GPC-17000: Polystyrene sulfonate can be used in the fabrication of low-humidity sensors. Multilayer thin films are formed by layer-by-layer self-assembly of polystyrene sulfonate and poly(allylamine hydrochloride) on the gold electrode of a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM).
· GPC-32000: Poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) is used as an analytical size standard in the following aspects: comparing the ordering of poly(styrenesulfonate) (NaPSS) chains at two solid interfaces and in the bulk using colloidal probe atomic force microscopy (CP-AFM) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS).
Cosmetics Industry:
Primarily used for stabilizing emulsions, thickening, film-forming, and cleansing.
Energy Storage Industry:
· Membrane Separation Technology: Research has explored the use of polystyrene sulfonate for modifying forward osmosis membranes. By enhancing the hydrophilicity of the membrane, water flux can be improved, a technology with potential applications in water treatment and energy recovery systems.
· Hydrate Control: In studies on the formation of natural gas hydrates (a potential form of energy storage), polystyrene sulfonate is used as a thermodynamic promoter to effectively increase the formation rate and conversion efficiency of hydrates.
